Sueetie Wall Message Editing is Fundamental

by Dave Burke 18. January 2012 17:12

Because Wall Message Editing IS fundamental, we couldn’t let Sueetie v4.0 ship without giving you the ability to edit wall messages.  Wall Message Editing is configurable for each wall as a Configuration setting.  When the "CanEditMessages" Wall Property is enabled users can edit their own messages as can Site Content Administrators.  There are no plans to enable comment editing in v4.0 for either users or Content Administrators.  We should also note that users cannot delete their messages, as only Content Administrators can delete both messages and comments.

How to Edit a Wall Message

Wall messages can be edited on the message's permalink page. Below is what the editor looks like. The Edit "pencil" icon is circled, which will toggle the message Editor. Both clicking on the pencil with the editor open or on the "cancel" button closes the editor and restores any changes to the message.

Wall Message editing is designed to update a message's content. Changes to file attachments or images is not included in wall message editing.  Also, because of the lightweight editing model, code blocks can be modified or removed altogether, but new code blocks cannot be added as there is no BBCode parsing functionality.

Wall Messages allow minimal HTML tags, which is typical for all wall-like applications. The editor supports Hyperlink HTML tags to create links of selected text. Unlike when creating the wall message originally, urls in the format http://somelink are not automatically converted to Hyperlinks. Below is a screenshot of the editor hyperlink popup and toolbar icons.

You might have thought we were done with walls, but darn it, there are a couple fun things we really have to do yet.  We’ll make it quick.  You can guess what’s coming, um, on the Sueetie Wall! (But don’t use the editor to change the guess.  That would be cheating.  ha-ha!)
